Any fiber from an animal that originates from an island, the list is longer than you think.
Although all too often ignored, island fibers have played a vital role in sustaining various cultures from Iceland, the Shetlands, and the endangered Soay on St. Kilda in Scotland, where the sheep remain although the people have long since vanished. This category is designed to bring attention to the number of native island fibers and a little research will yield just how many fibers are “survivors” of island life, including Arapawa off the coast of New Zealand or the North Ronaldsey sheep in the Orkney Islands
